Hello, I'm new to the list. I'm hoping someone else is researching or knows about the McMuldroch and/or Kirk families from Wigtownshire. My ancestor was William McMuldren, originally McMuldroch, was born on the 7th of Sept 1817 to John McMuldroch and Margaret Kirk, in Old Luce, Wigtownshire, Scotland. I have so far been unable to find anything else on William's childhood or his parents history. My only guess is that the family actually lived in New Luce, given that is where William thought he was born. In 1855 William is living in Newton on Ayr, Ayrshire, Scotland, when he marries Jane O'Hara. Jane was only 22, while William was on his second marriage at age 37, being a widower. I have no knowledge of who his first wife was. My guess is he is the William McMuldren in Newton on Ayr, in the 1851 census, however the ages are odd, he's listed as 28, wife Mary is 40, daughter Isabella is 18, son William is 12, granddaughter Margaret Stewart is 9, and grandson William Robt is 2. If this is my William (which I presume it is given he made up the name McMuldren), I have no idea what happened to the rest of these people from his household. Anyway, if anyone knows where to point me next, or has knowledge of either of these family names (or this family) I would love to hear from you! I've checked the ScotlandsPeople website and have been unable to find anything extra on John and Margaret. Katie Rennie
