With the help of a couple of English gentlemen on the Wigtown list I was able to unravel the relationship between Charlotte Ireland and Herbert Norris Johnstone, M.N. who were cousins a few times removed back to John Hyslop 1788, Cotton Mill, Auchencairn, Kirkcudbrightshire and Grace Thomson, 1802, Kelton, KKB. I was quite relieved as it took a lot of back pedaling to find who Charlotte Ireland and Herbert Norris Johnstone's forebears were. Can you imagine my total surprise, however, when I was scrolling through http://www.kirkyards.co.uk/weddingNotices.asp?DateSearch=1929&offset=30 and came across the following: 26 August 1929 Herbert Norris Johnstone and Helmi Kristina Falkenberg : At Sakkijarvi Parish Church, Wiborg, Finland, Herbert, son of the late Herbert Johnstone, Castle Douglas, to Helmi, youngest daughter of the late Eric Falkenberg, manager of Petrograd Steamship Company. I have no idea if Helmi Falkenberg died young, or whether she came to live in Scotland, or what. I do not know when Herbert Norris Johnstone married Charlotte Ireland of Castle Douglas, except that I believe he died somewhere in Kirkcudbrightshire. I also do not know if Herbert Norris Johnstone had any children to either spouse. Charlotte Ireland Johnstone died in Carrutherstone, Annan, Dumfriesshire, 1992. One puzzle solved, and now another. I am not subscribed on the Kirkcudbrightshire list, and so if anyone on the Wigtown list would like to post my query there I would be very appreciative. Maisie
