Stair and his wife Margaret Ross of Balneil) and they had son, Major General Charles Cathcart, 8th Lord Cathcart b. 1686 m.1stly 1718 St Mary Magdalene, Old Fish St, London, to Marion Shaw (dau of Sir John Shaw of Greenock and Margaret Dalrymple b.1683)Not sure if this John Shaw also had Dunskey Castle. Major General Charles Cathcart d. 20 Dec 1740 at sea on route to his post in N. America as Commander-in-Chief. Margaret Dalrymple b. 6 March 1683 N. Berwick, d. 8 Oct 1757, (dau of Sir Hew Dalrymple b.1652 d.1737 & wife Marion Hamilton, and grand-dau of above Sir James Dalrymple, 1st Visc. Stair.) Margaret’s brother was Hew Dalrymple b.1690 who had sasine of Drummore in Life rent 4 May 1753 , then Drummore went to Earl of Stair 23 Jan 1754, (ref. M'Kerlie) and Hew Dalrymple d. 18 June 1755. Hew Dalrymple b.1690 m. 1711 Ann Horn and I am interested in two of their sons : a) James Dalrymple b. 14 March 1724 .....IGI C195294 or C0195294 (father’s name spelt Heugh) ....Scots Peerage vol.8, p.137b) Thomas Dalrymple b.1721 possibly d. Dublin 1779. This Cathcart family may have been in the area of Adair's "Little Genoch".
