Hi I am researching James Lavery, found in 1841 in Stoneykirk and appears to be born in abt 1796 in Ireland. James was a coachman and hostler. He married Ann Thomson, daughter of William Thomson and Ann Herron, in 1823 in Stoneykirk. I have found the following children of James and Ann: Mary b. 1823 in Stoneykirk James b. abt 1826-1831 in Leswalt – married Sarah Eden (?) Mary b. abt 1827 in Stoneykirk – married James McDowall/McDougall in 1848 in Stoneykirk Agnes b. abt 1829 in Stoneykirk Anne b. Abt 1832 in Stoneykirk John b. abt 1836 in Stoneykirk – married Jane Morton 1857 in Glasgow, married Isabel Kirsop 1876 in Glasgow Jean b. abt 1839 in Stoneykirk Charlotte b. 1840 in Inch – married Michael/Malcolm Laughlan in 1863 in Glasgow William b. 1843 in Inch Son John immigrated to Queensland, Australia. In Glasgow and Australia he was known as John Lawrie. I believe Ann Herron, mother of Ann Thomson, died in 1841 in Stoneykirk. Her birth was listed as 1771 in Wigtownshire in the 1841 census, Stoneykirk, Wigtownshire. There was an Ann Heron born in 1769 to Agnes Dalziel and William Heron in Wigtownshire. I would be interested if anyone can confirm this parentage. Ann married William Thomson in Stoneykirk in 1798. William was listed as a Joiner on Daughter Ann’s death record. I have not found parents for William. Any help with any of these people would be greatly appreciated. I have also found a reference in a newspaper article for the death of Alexander Angus Lawrie, son of John Lawrie of Stranraer, Wigtownshire: The Brisbane Courier, Queensland - Saturday 17 April 1915, page 4 Death Notice LAWRIE, - On the 5th April, at Brisbane, Alexander Lawrie, son of the late John Lawrie, of Stranraer, Wigtownshire, Scotland, Source: http://newspapers.nla.gov.au/ndp/del/article/20009816?searchTerm=daniel+lawrie#pstart1585690 This Alexander was the son of John Lawrie and Catherine Kerr. I believe these families are unrelated but thought I’d share the link. My John Lawrie lived in Brisbane and died there in Feb. 1915. Unless he married for a third time, Alexander is not his son, although he was separated from his second wife Isabel when he sailed for Australia with his children. John was abt 49 when he immigrated so it is possible he remarried but I have found no record of this. I am happy to share any information I have uncovered, and can provide a fair amount of information on John Lavery (Lawrie) and his descendants, although I have yet to locate any birth record for John. Hi Toni, I don't have a connection as far I am aware, but your mention of Mary LAVERY marrying James McDOWALL in 1848 caught my interest. I figure he was a son of James McDOWALL & Margaret EDGAR. Have you researched this? Do you know that Mary had a daughter Agnes to William CRAIG in 1845? Regards, Bruce
