Hello I'm returning to family history after a couple of years off, and am a bit rusty in finding information. Can anyone remind me of where I can find information on deaths around 1841-1851. I am looking for William EDGAR (born 1790ish) married to Elizabeth McCUTCHEON, Wigtownshire. They were both on the 1841 census but can find no trace after this date. They were both deceased by 1881 marriage of their son and I can find no trace on the 1851 census. Any help is appreciated on getting me on the right road again! Hi Mike, Were you aware that there is an Edward McKenzie b. c1787 Bow Middlesex with wife Elizabeth and family living in Turriff Aberdeenshire on the 1841 and 1851 FreeCEN census. Only wife Elzabeth living with son Thomas on 1861(Ancestry). Where was your Edward living on the 1871 census that you quote? I sense the Edward in Middlesex/Greenwich might be the Aberdeen one!! He gave the second christian name McMullen to his three eldest sons, John, George and Edward. The McMullen name suggests a McMullen female relative, perhaps a mother or grandmother and possibly an Irish background. Edward states in the 1871 census he is from Aberdeen(shire) but he was over 80 then and had his grandson staying with him on census night which may explain the discreptency or it could be he lived in Aberdeen(shire) before moving to London. I can find no record of an Edward born at this time anywhere in Scotland. I have found two possible family connections in Wigtounshire as follows: 1). (spelt Elezabeth on OPR's). This record suggests that at least one McMullen family lived in the area at about the right time although this Elizabeth could be either a mother or grandmother. Elizabeth is also a recurring family name. I therefore need to make a connection between a McKenzie and a McMullen, or between John and my Edward. Can anyone out there help ? Mike McKenzie.

G'day All, Thank you to every one who assisted with my search for the family and descendants of George SMITH (1878-1969). I am now after further information on one of his sons-in-law, William THOMSON. I have now obtained the death certificate for William. Based on information on it, and on his marriage certificate, it seems that he worked on the railways in various capacities during his life, including locomotive cleaner and engine driver. What railway company/ies operate/d in Stranraer during the period from c. 1920-1970? Where might there employment records be held? And are they accessible to family historians? Also, could sks check the WFP to see if there is a death/burial notice or obituary for William? He died on 1 January 1973 in his home at 52 Murrayfield Avenue. A while ago a lister posted a query concerning a Robert Kelton (bn 1814)married to Rosana Mclean at Old Luce (?) on 24 May 1836, and a son Mathew born 6 July 1836. (Unfortunately the posting has disappeared from my system, too efficient at deleting!) This family is part of my heritage also, and I am wondering where these 2 went. I found their son aged 4 in the 1841, and aged 4 in the 1851 census for Old Luce, both times with his maternal grandmother, but no sign of his parents there, or on the 1841 census either. If the previous lister has any further information about where they went (I even wondered whether they might have died in some accident or illness etc.) I would love to learn more about this family if anyone can help. I am also interested in any early information about John Kelton (bn 1811, Kirkgunzeon, eldest son of Matthew Kelton and Elizabeth Clark,) older brother of Robert, who married Margaret Patty at Kirkmaiden 1837. They had 2 sons born (1838,1842)in Kirkmaiden and 1 born 1840 in Barony, Lanarkshire, before moving to south Africa in the mid-1840s. I posted a query about him last year and had a reply which filled in many gaps in my researching. I know that he had an illegitimate son (William, my ggg-grandfather) by Isabella Reid (maybe Reed?), at Windmill (?wentmill?), whose christening is an entry for 1833 in the OPR for Kirkmaiden, but he does not appeared to have married her. How can I find out what happened to her? I wondered whether she died of puerperal fever, which happened to many women in those days, and I have certainly found such tragedies occurring often in searching my Kirkmaiden forebears. Thank you for all the interesting snippets of history that appear from time to time, and the WFP BDM lists that are being posted are just fantastic. The efforts are really appreciated.
