Dear Maggie, Thanks for the offer of information on the above, I am no relation. As Diana posts the WFP notices I try to add further information from my genealogical library if the person mentioned was in Australia - a little added info for anyone who maybe connected to those families. Regards Jenny

It is for those of us whose ancesters ended up in New York from Ireland. (some by way of Scotland) When on Ancestry, go to search, and choose NY. Go to immigrants and naturalization. choose to look at all sites. This is the Emmigrant bank of New York, about 15 from the bottom of the list. It was only in business from 1850 to 1883, but if you can find your Irish ancestor there the info is overwhelming. For instance, one of mine, is listed this was: Catherine her mark X Delonghry or daughter, Cath her mark X Burke 42 Whitehall place, born 1798 Co Kerry (Tralee) widow of Patrick l daughter, Catherine b. 1823 married to James Burke. Ammended July 21/1868. Also included is the year of arrival (to Quebec) and the name of the ship. With this site we have been able to find two other sisters, one having "one brother in California, George" who just happens to be my 2ed g grandfather. Funny that it is a bank record and there is no mention of money transactions. Hope this helps some one else. Joan ------------------------------ I congratulate you that you have found useful information on this site. I have found that my family names are so common and the information so incomplete that there isn't much that helps me. But, my family from Scotland and Ireland who blended in Brooklyn, NY, were always in NY. I ended up in Florida, but my son is now back in NY and his window looks out on the Emigrant (Savings) Bank. There is a big red sign painted on the bricks on the side of the building. It's on Chambers St. in NY. He looks out, as well, on City Hall (Mayor's office) and the Brooklyn Bridge. This is territory that goes back to the 1600s and the Dutch in NY. I'm delighted for you that you found that information. Lynn in Florida No virus found in this outgoing message. Hello folks! Noticing all the various messages about McCullochs, has anyone got anything useful to add to help me further here please? I have a Vans BRYDE born c.1761 in Mochrum; a farmer at West Barr; died 1851. He married Mary McCULLOCH, who wasn't alive by the 1841 census. She was apparently a daughter of a William McCULLOCH, who died aged 77, though I don't know dates. Vans had a son also called Vans (Vance), who's second wife was Elizabeth Ann McCulloch, born c. 1804 Some previous helpful advice from our marvellous WIG members, including info from a MI from Mochrum Kirkyard got me this far. But I can't progress further, and that's despite wading through the WIG archives too, and trying to figure things out. Do we know any more about these McCullochs? Do they mean anything to the other McCullochs people have been talking about recently - any connections??! Cheers all, Sue

Hi Paul & Malcolm, The 1895 OS map shows both High Rouchan and Low Rouchan. The URL is: http://www.nls.uk/maps/early/os_scotland_2nd_ed_list.html This area is on Sheet 2 - Whithorn. Whilst not marked on the current Landranger OS map, the Explorer OS map has a Gleann Moigh marked at the same location where Low Rouchan used to be. Regards, Bruce __________________ Hi, I just had a look on my map and it is spelt Rouchan, actually High Rouchan, practically due west of Glasserton itself. I can't see a Low Rouchan at this point, maybe it was renamed? There is a Rouchan Hill on the other side of the A747. Paul Wigtown P.S. The ban is for 'photocopies' or 'images' of these documents, there are no bans for viewing them. Since ScotlandsPeople deals in transferring the images to your computer screen, its bound by the banned years. In Scotland, its completely legal to view any Birth, Marriage and Death registrations up to about 2005 or 2006 [it takes more than a year to get the newest registration documents indexed and the originals viewable at NRH]. A researcher can get you information from NRH for a pretty small fee but a volunteer is much better ! MegG in OK Important Note: The author of this message may not be subscribed to this list. Having ruled out GEORGE MCCULLOCH and wife HELEN JARDINE born in Wigton in 1780's as my David's parents I now ask if anyone knows what happened to DAVID MCCULLOCH, born Jan 21, 1811 to DAVID MCCULLOCH & NICHOLAS MCKIE. Did he die in Scotland or emigrate to Canada? There were 10 children born in this family. all at Cardrain, Kirkmaiden, Wigtown Marg
