    1. [WIG LIST] Randy needs some Help .... To Listers in B.C. or from the US visiting Southern Ontario this summer
    2. Randy Chapple
    3. Hi all, Regrettably this is a blanket e-mail to all you helpful people on the Wig List, and not to mention, a long shot question. Would there happen to be anyone from BC in close proximity to Brian Minter Country Gardens (I believe in or near Chilliwack) that would be coming to the Hamilton-Toronto area this summer. They have a very rare tree (wollemi pine) that is only available from them as they seem to have exclusive Canadian rights whereas National Geographic has the same in the US. OR Someone in the contiunental US that would be coming to Southern Ontario this summer. I will check into any issues coming thru customs at the border if you could. Since I am 15 minutes from the Niagara/Toronto QEW I could. easily arrange to meet some helpful lister. I guess this stems from liking old things and this tree was rediscovered in 1994 in Oz (only ~100 in the wild) after being thought to be extinct for over 2,000,000 years. It first appeared 60 Million years ago. It is sort of a neat read as they are making it available as an 8-12" tree in a small pot. National Geo seems to have gotten the shipping part down whereas Minter Gardens would use a horrible option for transport "Greyhound Bus". Here is some interesting reading about it http://shop.nationalgeographic.com/jump.jsp?itemID=3288&itemType=PRODUCT Let me know if someone can help. Thanks Randy Hamilton, Ont Can

    1. [WIG LIST] Help with photo ID
    2. Barbara McLean
    3. Hello Listers! I am in the process of going through old photos after the sad passing of my father-in-law a few weeks ago. I just came across a photo showing a man and two children - who are my father-in-law and his sister. In order to identify the man I'm hoping someone in the group can offer a suggestion. One thing I learned the hard way is get folks to ID old photos before they pass away. In the photo there is a sign on the wall of the building behind them that says Daisy McLean - Pianiste & teacher. It is a brick building with a wooden porch and must have been taken in about 1928 or so from the age of the children. I know that when my father-in-law was about 5 or 6 his mother, Daisy (McQueen) McLean brought him to Scotland for his health and most likely they stayed with her parents in Newton-Stewart. So the question is if the photo is taken in Scotland or Canada, where they lived. Would there be any directories showing that she may have taught piano while in Scotland? or is the word "Pianiste" used in Scotland - or should I be searching Canadian directories? Any help is appreciated. Regards Barbara McLean Murrita, CA

    1. Re: [WIG LIST] OSBURN/OSBORNE and MURDOCH, Kirkcolm & Inch
    2. Col & Mary Hollis
    3. Hello. I am new to this list and hoping to contact descendants of James OZBURN/OSBURN/OSBORNE, ship's captain, born ca.1788,died (drowned ?) on or about 18th Jan 1828 when his ship THREE FRIENDS went down off the Irish Coast. He had a sister Janet OSBORNE born ca.1791 at Mochrum. In 1828 she swore that she was his only kin when settling his intestate estate.Janet died 12 Apr 1869 at Cairnbrock Farm House, Kirkcolm. Her death certificate named her parents as John OSBORN, farmer, and Elizabeth DOUGLAS. James OZBURN/OSBURN/OSBORNE fathered two children although there is no evidence that he married either of their mothers. His known issue was: (1) Elisabeth OZBURN bapt. 8th Jan 1808 at Inch. Father: James OZBURN and mother Helen NIELSON, both of Inch parish, Wigtownshire. (2) James OSBURN bapt. 18 Feb 1813 at Girvan, Ayr. Father James OSBURN "of Inch", mother Mary McQuiston of Girvan. Elisabeth married Peter MURDOCH and had five children. James junior married Wilhelmina DRYNAN and had six children. By 1841 Aunt Janet OSBORNE (ca1791-1869) was farming with James junior and she lived out her life with his family at Cairnbrock, Kirkcolm. She also maintained a relationship with her niece Elisabeth and in 1841 was looking after Elisabeth and Peter MURDOCH's first born, Janet Osborne MURDOCH aged 2 years, while the parents were residing or temporarily boarding at Fisher St., Stranraer. Best wishes to all. Mary

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Author: swresearch Surnames: Ralston Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.scotland.wig.general/1874/mb.ashx Message Board Post: The two Scots settlers recorded in the Colonial Office records as having purchased their own vessels in order to proceed to Australia in 1823 were both farmers-Robert Ralston of Wigtownshire and David Brodie of Hopeville in Caithness. Brodie's brig was valued at £4,000, and he and Ralston took out farm servants, stock, implements, and supplies. In writing to Wilmot Horton on Ralston's behalf, William Maxwell, the Member of Parliament for the shire of Wigtown, made a point of stressing that 'Mr. Ralston is not leaving through necessity, but thinking it a good speculation to improve his condition'. The same remark could have been applied to a good proportion of the Lowland farmers who settled in New South Wales and Van Diemen's Land (Tasmania), Australia. 2. Peggy
    3. Hi, I am a newcomer to this list and hoping to get a little more info to add extra branches to my family tree. I live in Australia and have Scottish and Irish ancestors. Don't we all! My children's Gt.Gt.GParents were JOHN WYLIE and MARY MCGOWAN - he was born in KILWINNING, Ayrshire, 1827 and so far have not been able to trace her roots. They married here in Victoria, Australia in 1959. His father was JOSEPH WYLIE b:1798 and his mother Cecilia .....? According to his son's DC she was born in France and her name was GASTRAITT but I cannot find such a name at all after a long time spent searching. I cannot find a DC for either of these two. JOHN WYLIE, born 24 - 26 Castle Street, Stranraer, abt. 1855. His parents were Joseph Wylie and Jane King both born Kilwinning. John had siblings Cecilia 1857, Hugh 1858, Cecilia Mary 1861 and David 1863. John was informant on his Father's D.C. May 1891, Stranraer, and gave his own address at the time as Essex, Eng. Would welcome any help in tracing movements of this family in their latter years. Peggy Australia
