    3. For those of you putting together a family book, here's a template I found at Microsoft that's pretty cool. http://office.microsoft.com/en-us/templates/TC101030591033.aspx?pid=CT101445101033 It's not really what you're looking for, though. I am a relative rookie but have been gathering and sharing lots of transcription data and am always gathering info from the LDS, OPR, Genesreunited and Ancestry type sources but get lost in the data when its not stored properly so I can file or sort it later.. :-( Any help, templates or guidance greatly appreciated:-) Cheers Jim Patterson Researching Pat(t)erson, Welsh, Jamieson, Murray, Macdougall, Mc Cartney, Robertson, Barton, Heughan, Mc Naught , Kay, McClure, Adams, Allan, and Shepherd in Scotland and SW Scotland, Dumfries and Galloway mainly:-) ----------------------------------- == Kirkinner History == The earliest reference to Kirkinner was made in the 4th Century and it was known at that time as Carnesmoel. ------------------------------- To unsubscribe from the list, please send an email to SCT-WIGTOWNSHIRE-request@rootsweb.com with the word 'unsubscribe' without the quotes in the subject and the body of the message ____________________________________________________________________________________ Get the free Yahoo! toolbar and rest assured with the added security of spyware protection. http://new.toolbar.yahoo.com/toolbar/features/norton/index.php

    3. Hi Diana, There is a farm called Palmallet between Garlieston and Whithorn. Mary Crawford MacKeand <jcbmck@udel.edu> wrote: Hi Diana, It is an odd name. They also stuck her with brass pins to make sure. Maxwell says that Palmallet means "barter pool" and was a place where drovers bartered cattle. Looking at the place, I'd wonder why they took them just there, but never mind. 1. Re: [WIG LIST] OSBORNE/MURDOCH & Naming Patterns
    2. Col & Mary Hollis
    3. Hello - Scots (and Irish) Naming patterns have been a godsend to many of us. There is a local variation in Banffshire where godparents had the same forenames as the child being baptised. Examples from the parish of Keith - two children belonging to the large family of James GRAY and Isabella m/s DEAN: Alexander GRAY bapt. 15 Feb 1827 - godparents: Alexander GRAY junior & Alexander BREMNER, surgeon. Elizabeth GRAY bapt. 17 Feb 1830 - godparents: Elizabeth SESSIMAN, Elizabeth GRAY, Robert HENDERSON My GRAYs (Highland & Lowland) followed the naming pattern reasonably closely, as did most of my other families. But - not so Elisabeth OSBORNE (the dau of James OZBURN & Helen NIELSON) who married Peter MURDOCH (son of Alexander MURDOCH & Jane NEILSON/NIELSON) 14th Feb 1836 in Kirkcolm. Wig. CHILDREN NAMED FOR 1. Janet Osborne MURDOCH Aunt Janet OSBORNE (father's sister) 2. James Osborne MURDOCH Her father and her half brother 3. Alexander MURDOCH Paternal grandfather 4. John Osborne MURDOCH Maternal great-grandfather 5. Elisabeth Osborne MURDOCH Maternal great-grandmother 6. Jane MURDOCH Paternal grand-father Peter, the childrens' father did not even get a guernsey - and I bet mother-in-law Jane MURDOCH (NEILSON) was thrilled to be placed last on the list. Her son John MURDOCH (marr Martha FISHER) would have soothed feelings when named his 5th child and 2nd daughter (born 15 Sep 1852) Jane Neilson/Nelson MURDOCH Best wishes - Mary
