Hello All Been out of the research for a while due to unavoidable circumstances. I am looking for Ann McColm who e-mailed me recently regarding her family (and mine). She is related to James McColm and Margaret Jess. If you are out there Ann please reply as we have information to exchange on our mutual family. Unfortunately I forwarded e-mail to another e-mail address not realised it would come up with name only and not the e-mail address (oops). vonnie Ayr

Hello Out There Would anyone know about a Bed & Breakfast in the mid 1960's in Wigtown? Supposedly the only one there. We believe the name of the people that ran it was MacDonald and they are related to my family. I think they would have been related to Cannon, Neilson or McCartney families. If someone has any knowledge of the above, any info would be of great appreciation. Thank you in advance. Hi Diana - Is there any way of knowing more about this person? He probably came for the Comstock Lode - similar to the Gold Rush in California in 1848. Silver was discovered near Virginia City in 1859. Virginia city is now a "ghost town" with many of the original buildings still standing - quite a tourist point. American writer Mark Twain was once the editor of the local newspaper there. I have a Lauchlin in the family - and hoping this person might be related. Author: cheyenne1355 Surnames: Classification: queries Message Board URL: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.scotland.wig.general/1882.1/mb.ashx Message Board Post: Hi Glenda, On the 1871 census, John's birthplace was listed as Belfast (transcribed as Belgast) - shown below. The more recent census transcriptions on Ancestry are riddled with transcription errors. As you can see, the Crone family name was transcribed as Crom in 1871. I checked Scotland's People and there wasn't anyone in Whithorn with the name "Crom" or "Cron", but there were eight with the surname Crone. When I went back to Ancestry there was only one Crone in Whithorn for the 1871 census - Eliza Crone, born East Indies, about 1821. The others had to be John and Elizabeth's family. The only placename I could find around Belfast that was even close to "Nevtin Ceardo" was Newtownbreda, a village in Belfast. You may want to check the 1861 census yourself (this can be done through Scotland's People).
