The book about Golspie I mentioned in an earlier email speaks of a 'register of parishioners entitled to vote for county-councillors in 1889-90' This list had 243 people on it, 73 of them women. 'It must ... be noted that this is an analysis of a list of ratepayers only, and that a considerable number of heads of families were not on the list through being in arrears of poor-rates.' My question is: have any of these lists been preserved, and if so, where might they be? They wouldn't show young people or poor people, or most of the women, but still, they might yield something...
