Execution of Summons of Removing 13 March 1798 “Upon the thirteenth of March One thousand Seven hundred and ninety eight years I Alexander Sutherland One of the Sherriff Officers of Sutherland Pas. at command of the Sherriff Depute of Sutherland his Lybelled Summons of Removing dated at Dornoch the Sixth day of March current Raised at the Instance of The Right Honourable Elizabeth Countess of Sutherland Heritable proprietrice of the Lands of Caian and Kilfedder with their farm[?] tenants and Miln of Kilfedder in the Parish of Kildonan and County of Sutherland George Grenville Leveson Gower and now Sutherland commonly called Earll Gower her husband for his Right and Interest and John Fraser Esquire their factor and Commissioner Against Joseph Gordon Esquire residing at Navidale principall Tacksman of the Lands of Cain Lands of Kilfedder and Miln thereof with their haill parts apertenants, Alexander Polson, William Polson, James Polson, John Gilchrist Soldier, John Gordon, George Mackay, Janet Mackay, Elizabeth Sutherland, Robert Sutherland, Hugh Matheson, Hugh MacLeod, Donald Sutherland, Jean Ross, John Ross and Alexander Ross all subtenants & possessors of the Lands of Cain and pertenants, Alexander Ross tenant and miller in Kilfedder, William Mackay and Donald Mackay Subtenants there, Alexander Matheson and Donald Polson Subtenants of Carag apendicle of Kilfedder, Alexander Gordon and Alexander Matheson Subtenants of Saliscragie apendicle of the lands of Kilfedder, Angus Polson in Daliel apendicle of Kilfedder and John Gunn Soldier in Gairloch appendicle of the lands of Kilfedder And by virtue thereof in his majesty’s name and authority and in name & authority of the said Sherriff Depute Lawfully Summoned Warned and Charged the said Joseph Gordon Esquire as principall Tacksman of the said Lands of Caian Lands of Kilfedder and Miln thereof with their parts and pertenants, Alexander Polson, William Polson, James Polson, John Gilchrist, John Gordon, George Mackay, Janet Mackay, Elizabeth Sutherland, Robert Sutherland, Hugh Matheson, Hugh MacLeod, Donald Sutherland, Jean Ross, John Ross, Alexander Ross, Alexander Ross, William Mackay, Donald Mackay, Alexander Matheson, Donald Polson, Alexander Gordon, Alexander Matheson, Angus Polson and John Gunn Soldier all Subtenants of the foresaid lands of Caian Lands of Kilfedder and Miln thereof with their haill parts and pertenants All to compear before the said Sherriff Depute of Sutherland or his Substitute at Dornoch and ordinary Court place thereof the Twentieth day of March Current in the hour of cours with continuation of days to answer at the instance of the said pursuers in the action of removing therein Lybelled And I made[?] certification to each of them as is therein directed. Then I did after the form and tenor of the Said Lybelled Summons of Removing In all points an full double to the Will thereof will an Short Copy of Citation thereto Subjorned I left for the Said Joseph Gordon Esquire as principall Tacksman of the foresaid Lands & other within his dwelling House in Navidale with Janet MacLeod one of his maid Servants to be given him because I could not apprehend himself personally, the like full Doubles and Short Copy & thereto subjorned I left for the said Joseph Gordon Esquire as principall Tacksman of the said Lands of Caian Lands of Kilfedder and Miln at and upon each of the G[?], of the said Lands of Cain and Kilfedder respectively and Sinspivity[?] the one after the other the like full Doubles and Short Copys of Citations thereto Subjorned I delivered to each of the saids William Polson, George Mackay, Elizabeth Sutherland, Robert Sutherland, Hugh Matheson, Donald Sutherland, Jean Ross, John Ross, Alexander Ross,, all personally apprehend with their respective dwelling Houses in Caian, the like full Doubles and Short Copys thereto Subjorned I left for each of the saids Alexander Polson, James Polson, John Gilchrist Soldier John Gordon Jean Mackay and Hugh MacLeod within their respective dwelling Houses in Caian with their Servants to be given them because I could not apprehend themselves personally The like full doubles and Short Copy of Citation thereto Subjorned I delivered to each of the saids William Mackay and Donald Mackay in Kilfedder, Alexander Matheson in Cragie, Alexander Gordon in Saliscragie and Alexander Matheson there, Angus Matheson- Daliell all personally apprehended within their respective dwelling Houses and the like full Doubles and Short Copys of Citation I left for each of the saids Alexander Ross in Kilfedder, Donald Polson in Corag and John Gunn in Garlach with their wives within their respective dwelling Houses aforesaid to be given them because I could not apprehend themselves personally All which Short Copys of Citation were Subscribed by me & did bear the date hereof as also the date of the said Summons with witnesses names and designations be sent at the Haill premises and hereto as also to the marginall Notes on the preceeding pages with me Subscribing Witnss John Ross resident in Golspy and John MacLeod resident in Druming.” John Ross witness [signature] John McLeod witness [signature] Alex.
