Christine and list... If someone died in Meikleferry,Sutherlandshire...where would they most likely be buried? theresa.
The book is quite thick and does not have a detailed index rather it lists all the Fowlis MUNRO families from Donald who died c.1053 to Sir Hector, eleventh Baronet. The Cadet Families are listed as Munros of Rhives, Munros of Kiltearn, Munros of Fearn etc so I would need to know just in which area to search.-full list below-some places I cannot find on the map. Most I assume are in Rosshire with only a few in Sutherland. Cadet Famies; Culcairn, Obsdale,Newmore, Culrain, Milntown, Kilmorack, Allan, Culnauld, Tarlogie, Pitlundie & Bearcrofts, Auchenbowie, Craiglockhart & Cockburn, Edmondsham, Fearn, Ingsdon, Coul & Balcony, Erribol, Culcraggie, Kiltearn, Ferrytown of Obsdale, Milntown of Katewell, Ardullie, Teanoird, Killichoan, Tain, Milntown of Alness, Teaninich, Fyrish Contullich & Kildermorie, Dr Thomas Munro, Tullochue & Knockancuirn, Assynt, Achany, Katewell, Limlair, Pittonachy, Novar, Rhives, Findon, Braemore, Pontzfield, Leality now Rockfield, Lexington (American), New England (American). I am unable to get past a certain point in my research as I cannot find the parentage of John MUNRO supposedly born c.1795 in Golspie, married c. 1815 place unknown to Eliza SUTHERLAND also of Golspie and died at Drummuie in 1851. John 's occupation is listed as firstly a shoemaker then an ag. labourer. So, I am trying to put together all the Munro families in Golspie. Some years ago I borrowed this book from one of my relatives. I went over the book with a fine toothcomb trying to find my family which orriginates from Assynt and Lairg. However try as I might I couldn't find them. As I recall there is a shortage of dates in the book.
