There is a very nice description of Embo House in Memorabilia Domestica by Donald Sage, when he visited the occupants of the day who were renting it, Captn Kenneth MacKay and wife. Sage refers to it being built by Robert Hume Gordon, related to the Earls of Sutherland. Construction started 26th October 1767! (I wonder how anybody would know that day with such precision...)
