Hello, I am new to the list and wish to post a query. I am researching my grandfather, Donald Sinclair. I have very little information, but have had a look at a birth certificate for one of his children who was born and christened at Kirkton, Parish of (looks like) GOLSPIE in the county of Sutherland. Can any list member explain this to me ? Is Kirkton a village name, or a church name. This child was born 1924, January 23rd., and the registration date in 1924, February 8th. Another date is shown below the mother's name of 1917, February 17. Would this have been the marriage date of the parents ? Any help greatly appreciated. Sincerely, Garry W. Andrew Brandon, Mb. Hi Garry, Kirkton is an area of the parish of Golspie. It was quite common in highland parishes for areas around a church to get that name. But beware -- it may not be where present church is located. The other date you noticed is indeed the date parents were wed. If you require more details on Golspie get in touch. Grant

Hello Garry Welcome to the list. If you would like to put the addresses in Golspie for the couple on the marriage certificate with their names then I will look to see who was living there in 1881 census. With luck it may be the families you are seeking and this will give you a good start. It should also tell you on the certificate the age of the bride and groom?
