    3. Hi Judy I am replying to your email about your families. My James Rose McKay was born on 18 June 1819 to 1822 and was, according to his enlistment records in the 71st Highland Light Infantry Regiment in 1835 from the Parish of Dornoch. Not 100% sure of date of birth as he seemed to vary his birthdate according to needs. According to family bible his father was Alexander McKay and mother Anne Sutherland. Alexander died in 1852 (where I don't have the faintest idea) and Anne in 1826. Anyway, there must be some reason why Rose appears as his middle name I just haven't unearthed it yet. James came to Lachine, Lower Canada in 1835 with the Regiment. He was discharged in Montreal in 1838 and in 1839 married Mary Peck. Mary and he had two sons, Alexander born 1843 and James born 1845, both in Odelltown which is now in Quebec. Mary died in 1845. In 1848 he remarried Elizabeth Barbour in Woodstock, East Zorra township, Oxford, Ontario Anyway, everyone is probably getting tired of reading this story again, but you mention many of the family names that may connect. Put away in a box somewhere and who knows there might be a connection later on down the track.
