Hello List, Requests a few weeks ago re Sutherland Estate Papers & I have finally located my info. If you orde ficher No. 6028792 from LDS Family History Centres this will give you a full cover of the bundles with explanations. There are I believe more than one fiche but are very cheap to hire. I have written off them that " After death of 2nd Duke in 1861, all papers were deposited in the National Library of Scotland by the Countess." There seems to be a considerable amount of these bundles, some of which were used or referred to by Sir William Fraser for his Sutherland Book.[This book available at FHC on microfilm]. As I am descended from James, 5th Lord Duffus[yes, he had a considerable number of "natural" children he owned up to] I was particularly interested in the Skelbo & Duffus papers. Not that from here in New Zealand I can access them. There is Household & Personals. Estate Management Tacks. Legal Papers Titles Estate Plans Misc. Under Estate Plans I have noted -box 3587. Vol.27. Slelbo Farms 1778. Box 135, Factors vouchers for Skelbo. 1720-27 + 1726-34 + 1756-86. There are so many things i.e Box 5- 1015 & 1016 Sutherland Removals 1819-1820 +1820. Theres wadsets.inventories of tacks, proposed purchase of Skibo, sequestration of Skibo. John 15th Earl versus Skibo tenants 1716. Dornoch has 6 boxes. Other areas & names. Langwell & Kildonan Marches. Geanies, Clyne,Dunrobin,Tongue,Scourie, rentals. Letters of Sutherland Removals, Emigration South, even Removals in Coigach & Loch Broom 1853.. Under Military - Lists of able bodied men in Sutherland Parished 1745. Plus Sutherland Volunteers & militia & on it goes. Fair makes you drool!!!. Have fun, Barbara
