Hi folks At the risk of becoming boring on this virus issue I am posting this email which has come in from one of our members. It is vitally important that we all understand DO NOT OPEN ATTACHMENTS. Ensure your virus checker is up to date. Most, if not all the companies like Norton, etc. have already put out an update on this virus. If you do not have a virus checker then please, please, go get one. There is a very good absolutely free one at http://www.grisoft.com Christine Dear Christine, Unfortunately, this particular virus is one which RootsWeb subscribers *should* be worried about! Although the virus cannot be transmitted via RootsWeb itself, it can be (and IS being) transmitted to subscribers via the infected system of another subscriber. The virus picks up addresses from unread e-mails and replies to them using the same subject line and has the same message in the body, plus the phrase "please look to attachment". Today it arrived at my place in response to a message which I had posted to the Sussex-plus list. Fortunately, I was on the alert and immediately deleted the thing. There have been postings from people who have been caught on the Genanz list, the Aus-Qld list, and, of all places, on the Virus-discussion list! It is very apparent that many RootsWeb subscribers have caught this evil thing. Here's the page from the Symantec site which explains just how insidious this virus is: http://www.symantec.com/avcenter/venc/data/pf/w32.badtrans.13312@mm.html McAfee also has a full description of this latest nasty as, I'm sure, will all the anti virus companies. Rather than telling people not to panic, I think that it would be more advisable to suggest to people NOT to open any attachments and to ensure that their AV is right up to date.
