They sailed from Dornoch. The Prince of Wales passenger list says he was a shoemaker. He and his children who were part of the group who left Manitoba for Elgin. county, and the Talbot Settlement in Ontario are my ancestors. Later in Elgin co., no less than 4 Donald Gunns are to be found who are first cousins -- to confuse matters further, there were 2 Donald A Gunns. However, there was a different Donald Gunn who remained at the Red River Settlement. He was reputed to be a botonist and went on to be one of the first members of the Manitoba Legislature. Her name was Margaret Swain, daughter of Dames Swain, Chief Factor at York District. This Donald was born in 1797 in Halkirk, Caithness and joined the HBC in 1813. hope this helps.
