Lyndall: Here's some Cluness info that I found in some writings of Rev. A.M. Sinclair which may have been printed in the Eastern Chronicle, New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, Canada(don't have any dates). Not sure if any of these are connected to yours or not but thought I would post them anyhow. "The first Cluness lived at Cracaig, in Loth, came from Ross-shire. He was factor to the Earl of Sutherland. His son, who succeeded him as factor, had two sons, Gordon and John. Gordon entered the army, and rose to the rank of colonel. He had three sons, Archibald, William and Gordon. Archibald died in the West Indies. William was major in the army. He was a tall, stout and handsome man. He retired from the army at quite an early age. He resided at Cracaif, where he died in 1829. Gordon, youngest son of Colonel Cluness, was a captain in the army. He fell from his horse at Bonar Bridge and was drowned." Another: "I was told that Angus McKay, Donald McKay, of the Woodhouse, Donald Bruce, Donald Douglas, John McLeod, Alexander Grant, and George, son of Major William Cluness, came to Pictou on the same ship. Donald Bruce came by the ship Harmony in 1822. This information I have from Hector H. Bruce - a man who has taken more interest than any one else in the history of Barney's River and to whom I feel very grateful for his efforts in collecting historical facts. His letters in the Eastern Chronicle in 1886 were exceedingly interesting."
