    3. The compulsory BMD may vary by province in Canada as well. Certainly the public access dates vary. It may be more closely tied with the date each province joined in the Confederation. Also the smaller the center especially in the prairie provinces of Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba (except where the may be ties to the Hudson's Bay company) and other fur trading companies the less likely census information would be of real value any earlier than 1881 or 1891. There are some kind of reports available in Alberta and the NWT that may be of some use but just now I can't remember what they are called. I will try to find out what they are called and let the list know. M.
