    3. Living in Canada, I'd like to see the answers to these questions myself. It varies tremendously according to place in Canada from what I've found. Registration from what I've found began about 1884, but was very hit and miss until as late as 1900. Earlier records are dependent on itinerant ministers' records. Catholic parish records are quite complete in Quebec back to the earliest times, but presbyterian records, baptist records in other parts of Canada are not. As for census, there are census records for 1825 for various places in Upper and Lower Canada. There's a census of 1780 of Nova Scotia. The first widely done census is 1841 and every ten years thereafter, and is fairly complete for U & L Canada. However, Canada then was quite a bit smaller. The latest available census is 1906 of the western provinces, released to the public a couple of months ago. The latest for all of 'Canada' is 1901. The next one to be released is 1911, but it is tied up in bureaucratic and legislative wrangling, read war, between the Privacy and Information commissioners and everyone else in Canada. Hope this helps. Also the earliest compulsory BMD registration dates in each country, equivalent to Scottish 1855? Many thanks.
