Under, I think, the 1975 local government reorganisation, Caithness was expanded to include Tongue and Farr. This unpopular decision was reversed but not before some atlases and books had incorporated it. In the Penguin Buildings of Scotland volume for the Highlands and Islands, for instance, Tongue is under Caithness. Confusing. Perhaps that is the confusion. I was just in Melvich for a few days in June. If you tell me your interests in Melvich perhaps I can help.
