Hi Judy; Melvich is in Sutherland geographically but the post office is Thurso (in Caithness) and it's records (census, BDM, etc. are in the civil parish of Reay(also in Caithness) so if you are searching the LDS catalog or the Scotsorigins site you would use Reay as the parish. Perhaps that is the confusion. I was just in Melvich for a few days in June. If you tell me your interests in Melvich perhaps I can help.
