Chris, A dear friend of mine who passed away recently and who was very involved with his family history had sent me numerous letters on his line. I only refer this to you as I know you are somehow linked to Mackay/Murray history. Anyway, this is what he sent as one stage. "William Mackay (a Freemason) born at Nairne Scotland about 1823 the sone of William Mackay and Margaret Reid. Young William married Elizabeth Murray at Abertuthy about 1850 - the church is now a boarding house. They had a son William and all three left Liverppol 2 Aug 1853 in the "Australia" and landed at Williamstown (Victoria) 18 Nov 1853. They probably had a deceased son Robert at that time." "Legend has it that William's father married a second time and the children could not agree so migrated." Which William my friend Malcolm was talking about is unclear. I am aware that this family has been well researched here my Malcolm and his daughters here in Australia, and they have reunions quite regularly. Anyway, this might help or be of use to someone and I remember William Mackay's, Murrays and Reid's being mentioned before.
