Cathy, Most countries and particularly counties in UK have Dept of Justice or something similar where a registry of JP's is maintained. This usually includes a historical listing going way, way back. A number of sittings of JP's may be kept in that register. Whether or not they would send you information pertaining to a particular JP depends largely upon FOI requirements and you may have to prove a linkage. Certainly worth a letter or even a phone call. I had a JP ancestor early 1900s and was able to get some interesting records of him here (Victoria, Australia). Otherwise if you know where he 'sat' the local courts in that area may be able to assist.
