Hello all, After taking time to digest the material presented regarding Duncan of the Rogart Milita, this point came to mind. Would the OPR have the place listed where William(1795) and Duncan(1797) were born to James Sutherland and Catherine Campbell. Christine replied, “I believe the Sutherlands at Dalreavich to be the same Sutherlands who later lived at Claggin, Muie and eventually many of this family moved out to Canada.” Before leaving for Canada, in 1831, our family knows and the records support this, John Sutherland (about 1804), cousin or possibly a brother of Duncan drove a stagecoach in Dornoch. John was married in Dornoch(1829) and his first son(1830) was born there. Some of Duncan’s descendants, who live near Boston, Massachusetts, had information which suggested Duncan was a fisherman before he came to Nova Scotia. Could he have moved from Dalreavich to the Dornoch area? Are there lists of people employed in the fishing or kelp industry? One has to keep in Mind that Duncan was not nearly as common name for a Sutherland as was John.
