Hi all Well you know it takes me a minute or two to clue in sometimes...smile I was enjoying immensely some of the stuff that came over earlier this week about Kildonan, Saskatchewan. I went to the web pages and read thru the stuff , well on the Roll of Honour at the Kildonan Church, I dont know if any of you noticed the name "Matthew Mawson" Matthew is on my family line, and the name Matthew and Mawson just dont mix, I dont think anyone called their children that in this century because every Matthew died.....young. I have extensive research done on this family, for whatever reason I didnt connect the area to the same area that the Scottish settlement was in. There is a descendant of the line by the name of Harvey Mawson, who is of quite an age now, I havent talked to him for a couple of years, but I think he still lives. He wrote some books on the area and mostly about the Mawson lineage of course. But he is published with a few books, one of poetry. He made a gift of his one book to me and I bought the rest of them back a few years ago. With the discovery of the area being the same I have started to reread the books, I see there are some exerpts (didnt know how to spell that)..lol....of Sutherlandshire names. I know Harvey would not mind if I post odd stuff, so as I read I will put the odd paragraph to the list. It is not indexed....so it might be a while between them. If anyone is interested tho , I do know his books are for sale thru the museum in Wilson Museum Corp., Dundern, Sask. SOK 1KO They are called Before the Plow a collection of Short Stories by Harvey Mawson Ta-Doo-Oota meaning lots of meat by Harvey Mawson Fast Gun, The life and times of Charles Augustus Parmer, Dundern's Legandary Gunmane, edited by Harvey Mawson Portraits of the Northern Plains, Cowboy Poems by Harvey Mawson Truth Legend and Lies by Harvey Mawson I have all his books I am proud to say, he is a joy to talk to as well, he of course wanted me to come out to the "ranch"....asap.....smile That was a couple years ago and I guess now that I am thinking of him I should really sit down and write him a nice letter..... onto reading Cathy Wagner
Hi Cathy, I enjoyed reading about the Mawsons in Saskatchewan. However, just to keep the record straight, Kildonan is in Manitoba, not Saskatchewan. The Kildonan church this is about is in Winnipeg, Manitoba which is the city now at the junction of the RED RIVER and the Assiniboine River.Hence a lot of historical references to the Red River Settlement, etc. Regards, Ron Stouffville, Ontario, Canada but formerly a Winnipeg resident CHANGE MY EMAIL TO: [email protected] "Ancestors Plant Trees to Shelter Future Generations" URL: http://www.geocities.com/rpatrickca really-big-mail to: 150 Burkholder St., Stouffville, Ontario Canada L4A 4J4 Preserving Our Sutherland Heritage www.sutherlandheritage.com -----Original Message----- From: Cathy Wagner [mailto:[email protected]] Sent: Saturday, November 16, 2002 9:58 AM To: [email protected] Subject: [SUT] Kildonan --- Outgoing mail is certified Virus Free.
