Hi Iain, There are many mistakes in death certificates especially relating to the mother's maiden name. It just depended on how much the informant knew. I saw one today where I think the informant just chose his own surname as the mother's maiden surname. If I were you I would go by what the marriage certificate says although I have seen mistakes in them as well. Sheila Mackay
