Here is my absolute brick wall! My four times great grandparents are Colin Mackenzie and Barbara Gordon. No matter how many years and how hard I have searched I have not found their beginnings. Family tradition states that Colin was from Reay but I have always questioned that. There were very few Mackenzies in Reay country and I certainly have failed to find Colin. He married Barbara Gordon and together they made their life in Rogart. From 1771 to 1787 their children were born in Rogart. My three times great grandfather being their first son Kenneth, born 1771. I believe that Barbara Gordon is the daughter of William Gordon of Langdale and his wife Bessie Munro. However I have been unable to prove this and as Langdale appears to be a long way from Rogart I could be wrong. Now, today, on this list Lynn Munro from Zorra, has mentioned in her message about Angus and William Mackay taking a boat load of people from Rogart and Dornoch to Zorra. The Janet Gordon she mentioned is also a daughter of William Gordon of Langdale and Bessie Munro! My questions: Am I correct in thinking that Langdale was in the north of the county and not around Rogart? Does anyone know if my Barbara is a daughter of the same family? You can be certain that when and if this brick wall is fixed I will be a happy lady!
