    1. RE: Kildonan Manse
    2. ***************************************************************************** This email and any files transmitted with it are intended solely for the use of the individual or entity to whom they are addressed. ***************************************************************************** Kildonan manse was close to the church. In those days there were not such things as excavation reports. Some artefacts from early "digs" in Sutherland found their way into Museums - the Dunrobin Museum contains various artefacts as do the National Museums of Scotland in Edinburgh. The National Monuments Record at the Royal Commission on Ancient and Historical Monuments of Scotland should be able to point you in the right direction. You can search online at the Commission's site using CANMORE. The Record is arranged by current 1:10,000 map sheets, so you need to know the sheet reference number. Royal Commission pre-afforrestation survey of Kildonan only covered an area to the north of the church/manse. However, the brief publication does include maps of the remainder of the Strath. No sign of any cairn near the church. Also, Rev. Donald Sage, in his book "Memorabilia Domestica or Parish Life in the North of Scotland" mentioned that a tumulus near the manse had been excavated in the years before he wrote his manuscript. (The manuscript was written around 1840.) Can someone tell me where I might find a report on the excavation, please?
