UPROOTED HEATHER, A Story of the Selkirk Settlers, by Wemyss Cavaick copyright 1967 - Mitchell Press Limited, Vancouver, Canada Back cover reads - Here, in an authentically depicted passage of Scottish and Canadian history, is the story of David and Jeannie Grant, who suffered the cruel ousting of the Sutherlands from their Highland crofts. Uprooted, they voyaged westward to a wild new home in search of land they could till and call their own. The author, a Canadian born in Scotland, devoted years to research before writing a book that now joins the library of worthy historical novels illustrative of Canada's beginnings. This novel is devoted to the story of the Sutherland crofters who were gathered up from their destitute position on the beaches when lands they had tilled became a deerpark. They took Lord Sekirk's offer to colonize and so, as the first brigade of an historic migration of settlers, they were pathfinders. I found this book a great read for those searching ancestors in Sutherland. Pat Moreau Winnipeg ROSS & MACKAY - Kildonan & Rogart MACPHERSON & MACKAY - Farr & Rogart SUTHERLAND, REID, MURRAY - Rogart
Pat: If you actually have a copy of the book, perhaps you could give us the ISBN number found on the book somewhere. Sometimes it's with the copyright information & sometimes on the back cover. This is the best imformation to have when you want to order a book.
