Hello Robin Gibson is not a common name in central Sutherland so easy to look up. I think the place your Janet is from is Strath Achvaich. Did you get the name from the Old Parish Register? I do not have the 1841 so cannot look this up for you. However I did look at the 1881 to see if there were any Gibsons still around and found only the following: Donald GIBSON at Blairich, Rogart, born in Rogart, aged 26, a ploughman; married to Betty, aged 21 who was born in Helmsdale; their baby duaghter Maggie, age 1, also born in Helmsdale. Anne GIBSON, living in Dornoch, a spinster, agd 56, born in Dornoch, crofting 7 acres. With her a nephew, Thomas WILSON, aged 19, born Edinburgh. Also living in Dornoch: Hugh GIBSON, aged 51, born Dornoch, a farm servant, his wife Margaret MACDONALD, aged 56, born either in Rogart or Helmsdale; their children, Betsy, age 25, born Clyne; James, age 18, born clyne; Norman, age 14, born Clyne and Hugh, age 12 born Dornoch. Hugh Gibson and Margaret Macdonald are buried in Golspie - Hugh died March 1911 and Margaret died December 1907. I think if you check some of this out you will find they all relate to your Donald Gibson. Let me know if I can help further. If anyone is familiar with this family please contact me or if anyone has access to the 1841 census could you look for ages and place of birth for Donald and Janet.
