    3. No, I think the politically correct term would be more like WEBPERSON!! ----- Original Message ----- From: Ray Wigraft <rwigraft@melbpc.org.au> To: <SCT-SUTHERLAND-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Thursday, March 29, 2001 1:13 PM Subject: Re: SUT WARNING (Linda) > > Linda > > > Webmaster > ^^^^^^^^^^^^^ > > Highland Hearts > > > Hello Linda, > > I thought that in this day and age your title would be WEBMISTRESS :-))))) > > Regards, > > Ray Wigraft rwigraft@melbpc.org.au > Melbourne, Victoria > Australia > > > > > > ==== SCT-SUTHERLAND Mailing List ==== > You may, at times, wish to check out previous messages to this list. 1. WEBMASTER --WEBMISTRESS????
    2. Linda Brownridge
    3. Hi Ray, If one takes university classes, you receive your 'masters' and should that if you are female become 'mistress'??? It is no big matter to me whether it is webmaster or webmistress, whatever makes you happy Ray! Christine and I created Highland Hearts together as a partnership web site, the arrangement being that she provides the genealogy research and Scottish content and I as webmaster do the programming, designing and maintenance. It was at Christine's suggestion that I make people aware by advertising I am webmaster that people would know that I do the web site creation. Christine started this mailing list as a resource for people to be able to post queries and she went out of her way to get some good knowledgeable people such as Malcolm Bangor-Jones, and Sheila MacKay, or Glen Matheson or one of the many other good informative people to come on the list and help people. I am sorry to see the list being reduced to this. This mailing list is a wonderful resource for people. Thomas MacPherson the other day posted a warning to us all of problems with Rootsweb (Genforum) and Christine said that everyone is aware that they do employ these unscruplous methods, but I when I started out was unaware and everyday there are people getting their first computer and going on the web for the first time who are not aware of the methods they employ. It was in fact Christine who used those exact words of caution to me about not posting too much information to message boards and mailing lists. The good side of message boards and mailing lists far outweigh the poor side. You receive worldwide exposure to your query and the opportunity to locate family links and have good knowledgeable people assist you. I myself participate in message boards and mailing lists and will continue to do so, however I am cautious about the amount of information I give out and always ask that they contact me by email if they have pertinent information. Once bitten, twice as shy. In fact Christine and I first met through a message board posting to which she replied to me, but after our initial contact, we corresponded our information only through email. We have a wonderful friendship, a great partnership and are heart sisters and Highland Hearts was a result of our friendship. So let us use this mailing list as a great resource as it was intended to be instead of using it for trivial matters. 3. Hello Linda, I am deeply sorry that I have offended you and I apologise for doing so. My flippant remark was not meant as a criticism. Nothing more than making light of the way society uses political correctness as a tool today. I know only too well how Christine has been of immense help to me long before this wonderful mailing list was formed. Also I have been looking at Highland Hearts with great interest since it first went up on the Net and will continue to do so. Keep up the good work.
