Ket, Kit, Kate, Katy - all forms of Catherine. Different spellings abound: Catherine, Catharine, Katherine, Katharine, Kathrain, Kathraine. Gaelic equivalent, Catrine, Ceit. How would you pronounce Ceit? Is it possible that it sounds like Ket? Hopefully someone will know. Areas seem to have had their favourites - there are lots of Ket in Lairg. Kathrain is popular around Kildonan and Farr. On the subject of names has anyone noticed that the IGI uses the name Christian as a separate name from Christine or Christina? I am fairly certain they used to treat them all as one name but just recently when unable to find what I was looking for under Christina I typed in Christian and got my answer! Our ancestors were not consistent with their use of given names. My own family contains more than one Christine - shown on the Rogart register as Christina, born; on her marriage she is Christian; on the births of her children she was Christine, Christina, Christy and her grave stone shows her as Christian! Be interesting to hear if Ceit sounds like Ket. You may confirm what my (biased) interpretation has been for many years. Hello Christine, I was hoping that KET was short for Catherine as it confirms what I suspected. Just had a look at the LDS site on line and doing a search on the given name Ket it did not find any but came back with Kethren, Katherine and Catherine.
