Hi Robin My ggg grandfather was Donald GRANT . I Believe that he was married to Catherine MacKay . I do not have other details regarding this Donald. I do know through my research that a Donald GRANT married to Janet MACKAY,most of this family immigrated to Austraila . Christine has lots of information about Donald and Janet . They had the following children born in Dornoch (IGI): JOHN, born 2 June 1810; HECTOR, born 13 April 1812; ANDREW, born 1 May 1814; DONALD, born 12 May 1816; CHRISTIAN, born 12 May 1817; BARBARA, born 18 January 1821 [died 4 June 1821 whooping cough] (OPR); DONALD, born 28 September 1825 and WILLIAM, born 19 March 1828. G158 DONALD GRANT married 1.CATHERINE McKAY [born circa 1800] [died 9/10/1847] 2. JANE SUTHERLAND Donald in Fishertown, Embo, Dornoch, and Catherine (Kate) married on 4 February 1831 in Dornoch (IGI). They had the following children born in Dornoch (IGI): JOHANNA, born 11 January 1832 Embo [married Alexander Mackay - see Mackay Families K115] (OPR); WILLIAM, born 24 March 1834; ALEXANDER, born 6 June 1836; JANET, born 28 March 1839; HUGH, born 12 January 1841; WILLIAM, born 26 August 1843 [died 6 May 1845 Fishertown of Embo] (DC) and DONALD, born circa 1850 [married Margaret Mackay - see G183] (DC). In 1841 the family were recorded living in Fishertown. Catherine died in 1847 Donald then married Jane Sutherland on 22 December 1848 in Clyne (OPR). They had the following children born in Embo village, Dornoch: DONALD, born circa 1848; KATE, born circa 1849 [married William Mackay - see G099D]; CHRISTY, born circa 1851; ALEXANDER, born 1854 [died 16 October 1855 Embo - aged 1 year] (DC); JOHN, born 28 January 1857 (IGI) and KENNETH born circa 1860 (NC81). Living with the family in 1851 Donald's elder children Johanna and Hugh. In 1861 young Donald was a fisherman like his father. Three of the children attended school. The house had two rooms with windows. In 1881 Donald and Jane had their children, Catherine and Kenneth, a fisherman, living with them.
