I think Janet was born in Culkein Drumbeg in Assynt. Using estate records and other lists the story appears to be as follows: Neil Morrison is recorded as a tenant in Culkein Drumbeg in 1781. There were Morrisons in that township in 1774 (see my booklet Population Lists of Assynt) Neil becomes a tenant in Nedd in 1809. He dies in about 1813. In February 1814 his widow is recorded as Catharine Graham relict of Niel Morrison. She gives up the tenancy that year when her son-in-law becomes a tenant. Donald Stewart was tenant in Nedd until his death in about 1845 (the last year he is in the rental as a tenant). He is succeeded by his widow Janet Morrison who continues until her death in about 1869. Her son, known as Murdo Stewart, Donald (showing he was the son of Donald) took over until his death on 7 October 1902. His son Hugh Stewart succeeded to the family croft. Donald's son John is recorded as a "boy" in 1830. Another son Alexander is on record in 1834. In 1855 widow Janet Stewart is noted by the estate management as having 2 sons with their families living with her - against estate rules.
