My great-grandfather John ROSS was born at Durness and christened there in 1844. In the 1851 Census he was living with his parents Alexander ROSS and Barbara CAMPBELL at Sangomore. After a lifetime as a police constable in Leith, he returned to Durness, died at Sangomore in 1918, and is buried (I think) in the Balnakiel cemetery. Is there any way of finding out: 1) just where in Durness he was born 2) just where in Sangomore the family was living in 1851, and 3) just where in Durness he spent his retirement years? Or is it a case of the town's name being all the detail available? Finally, how can I verify that he is buried in Balnakiel cemetery, and how can I locate the position of his grave, if there is no headstone? I sense that my questions demonstrate a considerable lack of understanding about the whole situation, so please bear with me! John Ross Albury NSW Australia
