Here is some information on this family. ALEXANDER SUTHERLAND [born 2/1756] married MARION MACKAY [died 22/7/1830] There is an entry for a marriage between Marion and Alexander on 29 December 1785 at Dornoch (IGI). However, as this is after the date of the first children's births I wonder if there is an error here. Maron or Marion died at Birichen, Dornoch, on 22 July 1830. This death is shown on the Old Parish Register and names her as Maron, wife of Alexander Sutherland. (editor's note: some of these children appear born too close together - we must assume that these are either baptism dates or there were two couples in Dornoch with the same names). Marion and Alexander had the following children born or christened in Dornoch (SCR/OPR): James SUTHERLAND, born 13 January 1782; David SUTHERLAND, born 16 December 1785; James SUTHERLAND, born 21 November 1790; John SUTHERLAND born 11 April 1791; Margaret SUTHERLAND, born 19 February 1793; James SUTHERLAND, born 24 May 1795; John SUTHERLAND, born 26 July 1795; Helen SUTHERLAND, born 16 June 1804 [married Donald Munro] Kenneth SUTHERLAND, born 29 January 1809. DONALD MUNRO married HELEN SUTHERLAND Donald was born in Dornoch son of Angus Munro and Christian Graham. Helen Sutherland was born in Dornoch daughter of Alexander Sutherland and Marion Mackay. She and Donald married in Dornoch on 17 January 1826. Donald and Helen had five children, two daughters born in Golspie, then a daughter and son born in Clyne and another son born at Lochiver. Donald and his family all emigrated to Australia in 1837. A member of this list in Queensland has further information on this family. I will send you her email address privately.
