    1. [SUT] Visit to Sutherland
    2. Jenny MacKay
    3. We have just returned from a visit to Scotland and had the opportunity to visit some of the cemeteries in Sutherland. We were very impressed with the work that has gone on to preserve these cemeteries and we can see the amount of work that was done noteably to Clyne Kirkton. The weather was perfect for the whole week we were in the area, sunshiny days every day. Can you believe that? The only time it was bitterly cold, was the day we chose to go grave hunting, so consequently we didn't find any family stones. But we did manage to visit the Golspie library and a very helpful Stuart McLean found some entries amongst his records. So all was not lost. On a quick visit to the Edinburgh archives we tried to find the Free Church records for Clyne, Sutherland and Caithness, but apparently these records are either still with the respective parish church or have been destroyed. Does anyone have any further knowledge on this? My husband's gt gt grandmother Jemima OMAN was supposed to be born in Caithness, although all the census returns I have say Clyne, Sutherland. We don't have a parish for Caithness so the search would have been difficult. If anyone has Jemima married to John SUTHERLAND, parents William OMAN and Barbara MACKAY on their family tree, I'd be very interested in contacting.
