ROBERT SUTHERLAND was bap. 22/6/1836 in Tongue. Parents JOHN SUTHERLAND and MARGARET MACKAY, Scullomie. He emigrated to NZ c 1863. According to family story he visited Scotland sometime bet. 1810-1820, erected the family stone in Tongue churchyard, met and married a younger lady, surname CALDER. Took her back to NZ and had a family. Descendants have visited Tongue within the past 20 years. I had thought they married in NZ, but yesterday a cousin told me they married in DORNOCH.
