Thanks again to Karen, we have this great list of Tongue Parish deaths, 1857 Recently I had super results from a query to the SUT List about my husband's Kildonan people (thanks again, Sheila!) So here's hoping again <vbg>. 1857 deaths Item 11 is Margaret McKAY, single, age 77, Clashbain, Skerray, Tongue. Fa DONALD McKAY, decd. mo JANE [no maiden name given]. Informant DONALD BANNERMAN, neighbour. Clashbain has 1 house now, but in the mid-1800s 2 houses were listed No.1 was the croft house. No 2 was occupied intermittently (probably the first house, abandoned when a better one was built). The family in No.1 Clashbain were a DONALD McKAY 1785-aft.1874 (born "Graimb-more" Farr) and his wife CHIRSTY POLSON 1801-1874 (b. "Aulter-liole" Kildonan , fa John Polson, mo Betty Bannerman). No.2 was occupied in 1851 by Margaret McKAY, laundress (born Farr). Donald McKay, Clashbain, was age 72 in 1857, and I suspect the decd. Margaret was his older sister - or even a younger aunt! But the enumerator listed her as a separate household, alas, so no relationship shown. Does anyone on the Tongue or SUT lists know more about John Polson and Betty Bannerman? Or about "Donald Bannerman, neighbour"? I only have access just now to the 1881 census on CD, there are no Bannermans in Tongue Parish by 81.
