Thumbing through one of my latest book purchase last night I found a very interesting piece as the son of highland folk I was brought up with a fair understanding of what happened ( I mean fair an understanding not an opinion) but I found the following facts helped my understanding "some figures do exist for 1819.Prepared by Suther (Estate Factor) these indicate that out of 3,331 tenants and subtenants evicted, 2304 were re-settled on the estate, 889 settled elsewhere in Sutherland or in neighbouring counties and only 83 emigrated .Information was not available for the remaining 57." While only one year is referred to this proves to me how important the Work of this list is and how useful the work of POSH is each of the 83 people may have left Relatives in Sutherland who may be buried in Sutherland, I personally have learnt a lot about my relatives (most of whom stayed in Sutherland ) through POSH and I would encourage anyone who has not looked at www.sutherlandheritage.com to look at the Site and consider purchasing the Graveyard c.d. which Bill and Christine have donated many hours of work to. to read about family is one thing to see tangible evidence on a photo is quite exciting .
