Hello List members, I have been lurking in the background of this list for almost six months learning so much about the area.It is now time to post my interests! I must reiterate my thanks to all.I received some names of cousins still living in Scotland courtesy of Isabella McGregor. Using that info, I posted a message on the Brora web site asking anyone with knowledge of my family to contact me and within a month had received emails from two cousins still living in Brora!!A huge thank you to Ronnie Mackay who provides the services there in Brora! Highly recommended website! As luck would have it a lot of research has been done for me already! I am related to most of you;Isabella, Ron Patrick and more I am sure! My cousin has told me that we are descended from: (my great grands)- James SUTHERLAND who married Annie MACKAY 10 July 1894 in Loth. She was the daughter of Isaac and Sophie MACKAY. James(one of 9 children) is the son of John SUTHERLAND (1822-1904) and Elspeth MACKAY (1824-1911). other children are: George(1845) + Jean BANNERMAN m.2 July 1868 Donald(1846-1879) + ???--- 3 children William +???--Nellie, Katy, William are their children John(1856)+ Catherine SUTHERLAND m.26 July 1884-to Ontario Hugh(5 mar 1857)+ Annie MACKENZIE Annie+ ??? GUNN?? Kate(1859-1927) + Tom MOFFATT-- m.at Dumfries Helen(1863) + Donald MACKAY(S/O Isaac and Sophie MACKAY) John was the son of Donald b.1792 and Margaret b. 1789 SUTHERLAND buried in Clyne Kirkton (CK1) I suspect his parents were John SUTHERLAND and Elspet BRUCE of the Doll.(Awaiting death cert from Amanda to confirm this.) I have learned through the resources available on this list and at POSH that Donald had two more children; Margaret SUTHERLAND(1805?) who married Neil MACKAY. The parents of Alexander MACKAY who married Jane MURRAY.(b.1834) and Catherine SUTHERLAND b.23 Aug 1820 who married John MURRAY.Their children were Andrew, William,Donald, William,& Catherine MURRAY. Does anyone know these folks? Any additional information is greatly appreciated! I will gladly share anything I have, of course. Hi Eileen, I can confirm that the parents of Donald Sutherland b. 1792 [died 16 Jan 1879] were John Sutherland/Elspeth Bruce. And the parents of his wife Margaret Sutherland b.1790 [died 15 Jan 1873] were William Sutherland/Margaret Sutherland. I also have info. on Magaret Sutherland who married Neil Mackay [my G G Grandparents] and Catherine Sutherland who married John Murray [John was a son of my other G G Grandparents William Murray and Catherine McLeod].
