I could imagine that some of the stones might have been reused for the new Free Church and manse built in Lochinver in the 1890s - though the stones look fresh. -----Original Message----- From: Jim Bain [mailto:osclay@yahoo.co.uk] Sent: 04 June 2003 19:08 To: SCT-SUTHERLAND-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [SUT] Torbreck Manse and Church The Manse at Torbreck was directly behind the church. I've not been back to the manse since my grandfather left there in 1983. It was converted into business premises after just after that and hashed about. Certainly before 1983 there were dog kennels directly below the manse and they were built on the site of the old Torbreck Church. According to the local historian John Henderson of Torbreck, who has now sadly departed, the church was dismantled and moved to another location and he seem to think this was before the disruption. The Lochinver church supposedly came from Nairn so the next likely location for it could be Store but I really don't know for sure. Hope that helps a little. WWW.osclay.com
