Hi List, further to a recent query regarding Mary McMillan's residency in Sutherland in 1851, after having find a brief entry on a listing in the McMILLAN surname pages. "Somewhere else" on the web I found the complete entry for this Mary...... not mine. So if someone has a Mary (of whatever surname) who married a James (probably) McMillan, who appears to have been absent on census day. It was also implied that marriage was overlooked in the political appointments to the higher offices, as in the case of brothers of the local Earl or the King. Hello again, (As promised for Dick Murray) This afternoon, we traveled to the farm of Allan and Jane Murray. He is the great grandson of James Murray, the founding family member of their farm, now known as Island View Farm. They took us to the family grave yard where we had been years ago. Some of the wall has fallen and the Murray family is in the process of restoration. As was asked earlier about missing stones, this site of about 40 feet square has over 20 burials and yet only four or five stones visible. The stone for the first Murray is "James Murray, 1824-1907 of Jetbordugh, Scotland." Unless I am mistaken, they were trying to spell Jedburgh, Roxburgh county, Scotland. Some others may provide guidance. The IGI site shows a James MUrray, 1825 to John Murray and Margaret Clerk. Does this help? Hi Claire, I'm sorry but I could not find any of them. Regrettably, the page on which "one r" Morisons should be listed did not print properly so that is a possibility that someone with a C&R book could check. I do not know whether Balnakeil would have any lair records for that time period, or at all, but that might be worth pursuing. Otherwise, there are a couple of other cemeteries in the area but I do not have anything on them. Others might. Incidentally, my cousin, Frank Morrison, lives at Laid (he went there from Durness in the last 20 years, I think, so we are probably not related) so if you can't find anything through the list, I can write to him and ask where people from Laid are likely to be buried. Hi List, I've recently received a photocopy of my John McMILLAN's christening - Durness, 1816. [through a fellow-researcher who got it from their local LDS Family History Centre - fairly scratched film by the look of it] father Ewan is a shepherd Annuboll - or it could be Sinuboll ! It is definitely NOT Erriboll. All versions of Erriboll on the page are clearly discernable. The first letter may have been overwritten which is why it's hard to tell what it is. The ..uboll are clearly that. The previous year when Ewan married Flory McKAY he lived at Shinness, then was a foxhunter & shepherd. Any thoughts? could it be a property name?
