Does anyone know if there are Kirk Session minutes available for Kildonan and Loth? And if they DO exist, I would like to know how to access them. Thank you. Dear All, I've had problems getting through too, but now I access them this way and it's much more successful. http://www.ancestry.com/search/rectype/vital/freebmd/main.htm Liz > Address is > > http://freebmd.rootsweb.com/cgi/search.pl > > but be aware it is very busy site and most times you find the server is > busy. > I find early morning (before 8am) british time the best. > > regards > Cathy Goodwin
Hello Christine and All, Thought I would let you know that I am traveling to Scotland in June. My daughter and granddaughter are coming with me this time and I will be able to show them for the first time, the places our ancestors lived . I seem to remember that you mentioned you would be going to some of the cemeteries in Assynt in June. We will be in Lochinver (our base for exploring around Assynt) on the 18th to 20th of June. We will be staying at Sue Munro's B & B in Lochinver. I stayed with her in 2000 and became more familiar with the 'Historic Assynt' Project. If these days coincide with the time period you will be in the area, perhaps we may meet. To refresh your mind, my McLeod ancestors are buried in Elphin Cemetery (I sent you pictures) and Inchnadamph (where Historic Assynt are planning to restore the church). Only in UK for two weeks, spending some time in London and Edinburgh, and with my cousins in Ayrshire, so not nearly enough time. But we will make the most of it. The trip will be memorable for my daughter and granddaughter, and to me being able to take them to Assynt where our McLeod ancestors lived, and also to Leckmelm south of Ullapool where our Campbell ancestors lived will be the highlight. Wasn't sure if I should send this to the whole list as it is not really a research question. Thanks for all you do. It has always saddened me that so many photos have no names on the back or front for that matter. Yesterday I had 2 successes on this front I had a letter from my Grandmothers cousin ( granny died in 1945) and this Lady identified My Great Grannies Photo ! also a photo which just said " from me " 1914 I have a similar photo with the same lady named. This makes me feel that I must get as many of my elderly relatives as possible to look at photos and pass names on you can't ask them when they are gone! If any body else on the List is looking for Relatives of the Reids who lived at Crakaig I may now have some photos Iain Membership Secretary POSH Preserving Our Sutherland Heritage A Resident of Keighley West Yorkshire www.sutherlandheritage.com member's interests in Sutherland http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/~suthlist/index.html
Lots of people know lots about Murrays and MacKays: how specific were you in your request, eg dates, places, etc? We would not thank listers for negative replies to every enquiry, why do you not wait, say, a monmth and try again? Have a feeling the Dornoch records are available but forget where, also Rogart--can anyone advise please. Thanks Ann in sunny but cool Hamilton NZ.

Into my second week of the Open University course: Start Writing Family History. So far, it seems to be: Start Writing the History of 'The Family'! Tutor is a self-confessed (straight) historian rather than a family historian/genealogist. Oh well, you live and learn...... Anybody else doing this? Sara Cardiff
The compulsory BMD may vary by province in Canada as well. Certainly the public access dates vary. It may be more closely tied with the date each province joined in the Confederation. Also the smaller the center especially in the prairie provinces of Alberta, Saskatchewan and Manitoba (except where the may be ties to the Hudson's Bay company) and other fur trading companies the less likely census information would be of real value any earlier than 1881 or 1891. There are some kind of reports available in Alberta and the NWT that may be of some use but just now I can't remember what they are called. I will try to find out what they are called and let the list know. M.
