Hi, I am new to the list and hope I have got it right. My great grandfather was GEORGE MUNRO. He came out to New Zealand from Topachy, Altass near Rosehall, Lairg in 1854. He stopped over in Ballarat goldfields on the way. He married JANET SUTHERLAND in Auckland NZ. The only information I have of the family in Scotland is his father was ROBERT MUNRO of Topachy m JEAN CAMPBELL. I think GEORGE had a brother JOHN MUNRO m ISABELLA ROSS. We visited Lairg a few years ago and visited Auchintoul Rosehall and also Oak Cottage in township of Lairg. We would like to know of any descendents of the family. Thankyou. I hope someone on the list might be able to help. I am looking for the children of William McIntosh who married Margaret Gordon in Golspie on 22 October 1751. Did this family then move to Rogart where they had a son William born in 1760? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks, Sue Hadden shadden@gateway.net
Hi Marla, A good site to check is www.old-maps.co.uk/oldSite/suthe841/HTML/fs_84078001g.htm from there you can cover all the parish. The maps are large scale with a lot of detail and date from late 1800s. If you want more details about Kildonan get in touch Grant
Is there someone who can direct me to a good map, or tell me a bit about the following places? I am trying to find Knockfin, Kildonan and Balnavaliach,Kildonan. Thanks Marla Manson in BC Canada

Can someone happen to tell me where Balochnyle Bridge is? One of our ancestors Spencer Sutherland b.c 1788, son of Donald Sutherland and Christy Gordon, is mentioned as working on such notable public works as the Quay at Oban Scotland, and the Balochnyle Bridge.... t.
I have a photo of our Old Sutherland Home...which as family history tells us, is our lines ancestral home...whether true or not? we have yet to truly verify. I was wondering, if anyone out there has knowledge of large homes in the area of Dornoch....it supposidly dates from at least 1625, in 1976 was no longer standing, it has been rumoured to have been destroyed circa 1960.... is anyone out there who might be interested in taking a look at my photo? I can send it to you directly. Thankyou to all for your assistance, Theresa
Would anyone have knowledge of these persons? Janet ROSS m. Angus SUTHERLAND, she was the daughter of William ROSS, 8th Lord of Invercharron. He married Helen ROSS of Braelangwell. William died before 1772. Any suggestions? Theresa Coleman
Hello Iain, Thank you for sharing this information. I think that the John Sutherland mentioned in the removal notice was my ancestor. He was a tenant to the Rev. Alexander Sage. I do not know where he and his family stayed until they sailed for British North America a few months later. Does your John Sutherland continue on at Brora after the summer of 1813? Ann Bannerman, I'm betting, was "Banntrach na h'ellich", the widow of the mill-lade. Her late husband, George Gunn was "Seoras Dalangall", of the family of Gunns from Dalangal. They also were tenants of the Rev. Sage. The IGI lists two children for Ann Bannerman and George Gunn: Benjamin, b. 5 Jun 1791 and Elizabeth, b. 20 Dec. 1793. Donald Sage gives two other children, William and Kate. Hugh Sutherland of Ferranach likely was this man (Kildonan OPR): 13 Jun 1801 Katharine Hugh Sutherland Isobel McKay Ferranach 17 May 1803 John Hugh Sutherland Isobel McKay Ferranach 15 May 1805 Jean Hugh Sutherland Isobel McKay Ferranach 31 Mar 1807 Christian Hugh Sutherland Isobel McKay Ferranach 26 Mar 1810 David Hugh Sutherland Isobel McKay Ferranach 15 Jan 1813 Mally Hugh Sutherland Isobel McKay Ferranach I found one William Sutherland from Kildonan in the OPR. Hi All, I am hoping that someone can help me with my brickwall. I am trying to find details for my ggg grandmother CHRISTINA GRAHAM. In 1787 she married in Cromarty Angus Munro and they had had seven children the last three Margaret born Dornoch, James born Skibo and Christian born Cyderhall. I have had the birth details checked out on the OPR but have checked out both for Christina's birth and marriage details and cannot find any record. There is also a gap of 8 years between the third and fourth child which is when they seem to have moved from R& C to the Dornoch area. I would really like suggestions as to where I can look to find her parents details and any siblings she may have had. Any help would be appreciated. Regards, Judy. _________________________________________________________________________ Get Your Private, Free E-mail from MSN Hotmail at http://www.hotmail.com.

Hi All, Has anyone the list of monumental inscriptions for the Lairg cemetry? I am searching for the death dates etc of Thomas Robertson and his wife Janet Munro who had family born at Easter Lairg between 1816 and 1830 I understand there are Robertson graves there. Thanks in advance Colin Sutherland Tatyoon
Hi Donald I could not find any Angus, Andrew, or William SUTHERLAND'S matching your details in the Death Indexes for Victoria Aus from 1861 to 1913. Nor in the Death Indexes for NSW Aus. from 1861 to 1945. The closest I came was for a William's death in Petersham NSW in 1917 aged 61yrs, parentage unknown.
