Where was Eddrachillis? Lizzi
I'm not sure whether there was a town/village by that name : however, the parish of EDDRACHILLIS was in the west of Sutherlandshire between the parish of Durness on its north and Assynt on its south. Eddrachillis Bay is on the Atlantic coast and narrows into a sea loch between Kylestrome and Unapool, which are on the A894. Hi All I have extracted what there was of the Farr Parish records for the MACDONALD surmane only. They start in 1801- 1819 for births and I have only done the first section...I think I will just photocopy the second section and do it over time I believe it goes to about 1855 The marriages also start in 1801-1819, I didnt see a section at all for the later marriages but possibly didnt go far enough on the film. There is a long note from the schoolmaster John MacDonald that the people of the parish are not submitting to him the births and marriages that are happening within the parish and he speaks as tho he is very shagrined by it all!! If anyone would like to know about a birth or marriage 1801-1819 MacDonald surname email me and I will give you the details I have done two files for myself...one straight records and one I have grouped the families together......the MacDonald clan mostly married the MacKay's....I was sure glad I wasnt extracting the MacKay name or I might as well have bought the film!!!!!!! off-line for about a week with repairs to my Compaq...please e-mail me privately if anyone has anything for me!
I would like to know if anyone here knows where one could get a list or a description of someone listed in the 9th regiment of foot..... I found this in the Farr parish records tonight.....keeping my fingers crossed as it looks very good to possibly end up being my Major MacDonald....smile James MacDonald of Newland 9th regiment of foot marries Ann MacDonald 1811 The time frame is excellent...!! and the "township" is perfect.....as well...My gr gr gr gr grandfather John MacDonald was also of Newland and I am looking for a brother.....to either him or his wife also a MacDonald..... I noticed....that a bit down the page a MacKay was of the 79th regiment of foot and I went back and checked as the page is not in good shape.....and I copied it ....light, dark and inbetween....lol.....and it most definitely says the 9th regiment of foot.....unless the parish register wrote it down wrong....and in that case if there is no 9th regiment...then I will try and find the 79th.....see if he is in there.... Is there a reel I can order?? from the Lds... Cathy
