    3. The subgroup of Scotland-Genealogy has now been created, and you have all been invited. If you are not interested in continuing to help one another past 2 March 2020, discard your invitation. You can always visit https://scotland-genealogy.groups.io/g/Selkirkshire/ and subscribe later. 1. [SCT-Selkirk] Our Rootsweb list is going away
    2. Valorie Zimmerman
    3. I am shocked about this. We've been sharing information and helping one another on this list for nearly 20 years. If you don't believe that, see https://lists.rootsweb.com/hyperkitty/list/sct-selkirk.rootsweb.com/2001/3/. Thank you subscribers and contributors over the years. Here is the text of the announcement to all of us listowners: Beginning March 2nd, 2020 the Mailing Lists functionality on RootsWeb will > be discontinued. Users will no longer be able to send outgoing emails or > accept incoming emails.. After that, mailing list archives will remain > available and searchable on RootsWeb. > As an alternative to RootsWeb Mailing Lists, Ancestry message boards are a > great option to network with others in the genealogy community. Message > boards are available for free with an Ancestry registered account. > Thank you for being part of the RootsWeb family and contributing to this > community. > Sincerely, > The RootsWeb team Our Message Board is quite useful: https://www.ancestry.com/boards/localities.britisles.scotland.sel/mb.ashx with over 1000 messages! I urge you to use it, and all the boards, especially because you can upload photos and other images to the boards, which are not available here on the list. Usually posting to the Locality board is most useful, by the way. *Please use the surname field to list every surname mentioned in your post.* We do have the option to create a list elsewhere, and I've done that at the prompting of a fellow listowner who also has Scottish lists. The group will be at https://groups.io/g/Scotland-Genealogy. When it is approved, I will invite all the members of this list and create a sub-group for Selkirkshire. I'm inviting other listowners with Scottish lists to do the same. This should work well, as groups.io has an easy way to list in on threads of interest, and mute others. If you are interested, when your invitation arrives, probably tomorrow, you can respond. If not, discard. Messages to the new group before 2 March 2020 will be treated as test messages and discarded before going public. Until 2 March 2020, this list will continue as usual. Please post in order to have your information in the Rootsweb list archives! All the best, Valorie

    3. Hi folks, the system no longer automatically sends them here to the list, but I think they are valuable, so here's the latest: https://www.ancestry.com/boards/localities.britisles.scotland.sel.general/888/mb.ashx about Turnbull Walker and Hermistone Valorie

    1. [SCT-Selkirk] Gatewayed Message Board posts
    2. Valorie Zimmerman
    3. Hi folks, In the past, the Selkirshire Message Board posts were "gatewayed" to this list, so list subscribers could "click the link" and reply on the board if they were interested in the post. Since the recent list changes, those gateway posts are just gobbledegook which I can't allow to post here. The Rootsweb Product Manager has told us listowners to just discard these malformed posts, and that the posts we used to see here will not return. She has advised us to tell researchers to visit the Message Board they are interested in and to subscribe to the threads and/or whole boards in which we are interested. Our Message Board is here: http://boards.rootsweb.com/localities.britisles.scotland.sel.general/mb.ashx I personally try to remember to post to the board as well as the list to get as wide readership as possible. The boards are powerful because they are found by search engines, and one can attach photos and other images to posts, which is not possible here on the list. 1. [SCT-Selkirk] Rootsweb lists are alive again!
    2. Valorie Zimmerman
    3. Hello everybody, After some months, RootsWeb mailing lists are up and running on updated software. A few things are changed, some for the better. One of the items currently being addressed is why messages from subscribers are not always going directly to the list. Sometimes these posts are being held for administrative action. This could be because the poster - although subscribed to the list - may not be registered with RootsWeb. So my advice is to register with RootsWeb. It takes only a few moments and might fix the posting issues. Instructions: http://home.rootsweb.ancestry.com/listindexes/setupmail If you had an account set up before, you can use the same email and username, but you *must* choose a new password. If you are an Ancestry member, please do not use the same password as you use there. One of the great things about registering is that you will be able to control many things about your list mail from Rootsweb without contacting the listowner. 1. [SCT-Selkirk] Scottish Families
    2. Scottish Families via
    3. With permission from Rootsweb admin, I messaged many lists (but not all) about my new Scottish Families (SF) website. The site database currently has 80,000+ names, but the contents of sister-site Mull Families (MF) will soon be added (61,000+ names and 2000 media items). On registration, ** your own tree is created ** which can be populated via gedcom or done manually. The website is free to use until the end of this year. >From Jan 2017, a very small membership donation will apply (£5/$8US annually or one-off £20 for life membership via homepage Donate button). It is hoped that the various Scotland lists will adopt the website (unless there is a specific one for your list). The website links are below. Please await confirmation email before attempting to login. http://scottishfamilies.co.uk/tng/newacctform.php (register here) http://scottishfamilies.co.uk/tng/ (homepage) http://scottishfamilies.co.uk/ (help pages) Always wanted are family gedcoms, BDMs/OPRs, pics, docs etc.....
