The reason I ask is that the following family is in the 1851 census for Hawick: 1 Melgund Place - House adjoining Andrew Wight's Robert Cumming - Head - Married - 44 Wool Sorter - born Roxburgh, Ashkirk Isabella Cumming - Wife - Married - 50 - born Roxburgh, Ancrum Walter Cumming - Son - Unmarried - 21 - Woollen Yarn Spinner - born Roxburgh, Hawick Janet Cumming - Daughter - Unmarried - 19 - Woollen Yarn Finisher - born Roxburgh, Hawick Margaret Cumming - Daughter - Unmarried - 8 - Scholar at home - born Roxburgh, Hawick Elizabeth Cumming - Daughter - Unmarried - 5 - Scholar at home - born Roxburgh, Hawick Margret Cumming - Grandaughter - Unmarried - 1 1/2 - born Roxburgh, Hawick While the parents are different Walter is the right age. Coincidence or not, there is also an Isabella Deans living in Backdamgate. She is aged 20, unmarried, born Roxburgh, Cavers and is a House Servant there.
